Can Emotional Intelligence Be Taught?

In my opinion, this might be one of the most important things to teach during childhood (and as we get older!). The skills to maintain emotional balance and deflect controlling or negative comments from others, is incredibly valuable to develop. Here's what the NYT found:
In the years since, a number of studies have supported this view. So-called noncognitive skills — attributes like self-restraint, persistence and self-awareness — might actually be better predictors of a person’s life trajectory than standard academic measures.
